Interstate Drug Cartel Exposed, 2 Arrested In Arunachal

Itanagar: In a successful operation, Arunachal Pradesh police on Saturday arrested two drug peddlers from the State capital and recovered over 36 grams of drugs from their possession.

Capital SP Tume Amo informed that one person (21) identified as Sosar Punung, was arrested from a government quarter at Vivek Vihar area of the capital city and recovered 31.3 grams of heroin from his possession.

“The person, who is the brother-in-law of Takam Pario, the Congress candidate from Palin assembly constituency, was staying in the house along with his friends. However, his friends were innocent as they have no knowledge about his involvement in drug business,” Amo said.

The SP added that another boy, Bengia Rigia (20) who is the son of People’s Party of Arunachal (PPA) President Kahfa Bengia, was arrested from his house at Mowb-II here along with five grams of heroin in his possession.

“The police also recovered 58 long and 42 small plastic tubes used to sell the drugs from their possession,” the SP informed adding, the quantity of heroin in the long tube costs Rs 1500 while that in the small tube is Rs 1000. Amo added that on specific information about drug peddling in Itanagar, the capital police had constituted a small team led by him along with SDPO and an inspector and launched rigorous investigation which led to the arrest of the duo. However, both Pario and Bengia could not be contacted for their comments.
