Investigators In Upper Assam Districts Is Difficult Straits

GUWAHATI: The Jorhat Regional Forensic Science Laboratory (RFSL), set up in 2013, winked out of existence – deserting investigators in upper Assam districts in difficult straits.

The Regional Science Laboratory was set up in the Jorhat ISBT (Inter-State Bus Terminus) building with four divisions so as to make an investigation into crimes faster in upper Assam districts. But the laboratory has been closed since 2017.

According to official sources, the RFSL has ten employees against 15 sanctioned posts. However, since 2017, all the ten employees have been working at the Directorate of Forensic Science at Kahilipara in Guwahati.

According to sources, Directorate of Forensic Science requested the State PWD (Public Work Department) to prepare the DPR (detailed project report) for the construction of RFSL building in May 2018. The PWD submitted the DPR in December, 2018. Dispur allocated two bighas of land near Jorhat Engineering College (JEC), besides giving administrative approval to the construction of the laboratory in February 2018. However, construction work of the laboratory is yet to be started.

Now the laboratory has no existence in Jorhat.
