Is Citizenship (Amendment) Bill provoking youth joining ULFA?

Paresh Baruah’s nephew has joined outfit: SP. There is no denying the fact that many youths from across the State have been showing keen interest to join the ULFA for reasons one can probably trace with the rising sense of insecurity among the indigenous people of the State and the indifferent attitude of the State and the Central governments in regard to the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016.

Tinsukia SP Mugdhajyoti Dev Mahanta has confirmed that Munna Baruah – nephew of ULFA ‘commander-in-chief’ Paresh Baruah – has joined the ULFA.

The SP said: “Inputs and evidences gathered so far from sources have finally made us believe that Digboi-based untraced Munna Baruah has joined the outfit in Myanmar through a professional recruiter.”

Munna (24) was a junior engineer undergoing apprentice training at IOCL (AOD) at Chabua.

Following a missing FIR lodged to this effect by Munna’s father Bimal Baruah, the police has been investigating into the case.

“We were clueless earlier, but various sources with homogenous outputs finally made us believe the joining of the missing youth into the ULFA. We’re on the toes to avert and prevent the sudden and unhealthy trend among the youths for joining rebel groups and netted several active youths in the district promoting the recruitment drive,” said the SP, adding: “Nabajit Mahanta and Raju Moran alias Kukul have been netted on Friday evening for maintaining alleged nexus with the ULFA (I) and were about to join the organization. Another active linkman, Palash Jyoti Moran, was also arrested on Friday evening for allegedly encouraging youths for joining the banned militant organization.”
