Itanagar To Host Maiden International Film Fest

Inaugural film will be Rima Das’ Bulbul Can Sing

ITANAGAR: The Government of Arunachal Pradesh will be organizing the first Itanagar International Film Festival (IIFF) under the initiative of Department of Information and Public Relations (DIPR) from February 22 to 25 at Dorjee Khandu State Conventional Centre.

Highlighting on the IIFF, Director DIPR, Obang Tayeng said the festival will portray the best of ‘tribal cinema’ of the Northeast region and films from around the world.

“The celebration of cinema will take place over four days, with an opening ceremony at 5.00 pm that will be followed by the screening of Bulbul can Sing by Rima Das, who is a national award winning director from the North-east, Assam,” Tayeng said. He also informed that the festival will showcase a total of 51 films and will include the Indian Panorama and World Panorama.

A three-member jury panel comprising Xoliswa Sithole (South African actress and documentary filmmaker), Lipika Singh Darai (National Award winner in film making and direction) and Meghanath (National Award winner in film) have been selected to judge the North East film competition section.

“The festival will also witness interactive sessions on impact and importance of cinema/web cinema, wildlife filmmaking and conservation in India for the 21st century-opportunities and challenges of eco-system, film making support, film policy, infrastructure & industry, mapping northeast cinema, creativity and culture labour,” he added.
