SHILLONG, Feb 8: All six Indian pairings have made it to the semifil stage of the mixed doubles, men's doubles and women's doubles in the South Asian Games table tennis events at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Sports Hall here today.
The quarterfil rounds were held in the evening, with G Sathiyan and Mouma Das beating Moosa Munsif and Fathimal Juma Nimaal (Maldives) 3-0 and Anthony Amalraj and Manika Batra defeating Ali Sajad Faisal and Rahila Kashif (Pakistan) 3-0 in the mixed doubles.
The Indians' opponents in tomorrow's mixed doubles semis will be two Sri Lankan pairs.
Udaya Rasinghe and Ruvini Kanngura defeated Asim Qureshi and Shabm Bilal of Pakistan 3-0, while Rohan Sirise and Ishara Madhurangi beat Nepal's Deep Saun and bita Shrestha 3-1.
In the women's doubles, Mouma Das and K Shamini beat Moumita Alam and Rahima Akhter (Bangladesh) 3-1. They will face bita Shreshta and Eli Marharjan of Nepal in the semis. The Nepal duo defeated Shabm Bilal and Rahila Kashif of Pakistan 3-1.
On the other side of the draw, Manika Batra and Pooja Sahasrabudhe beat Muee Mohamed and Fathimal Juma Nimaal 3-0. They will face Ishara Madhurangi and Erandi Warusawitha of Sri Lanka in the semis. The Lankan pair beat Bangladesh's Mira Shamin and Snigaha Sulta 3-0.
The day ended with the men's doubles quarters. Anthony Amalraj and Sanil Shetty (India) beat Mahbub Billah and Mohammed Zaved (Bangladesh) 3-0. The winners will face Rohan Sirise and Chameern Ginge (Sri Lanka) in the semis after the latter defeated Asim Qureshi and Ali Sajad Faisal 3-0.
The Indian pair of Devesh Karia and G Sathiyan, meanwhile, beat Abdul Raheem and Muhammad Rameez of Pakistan 3-0. The victors will play Sri Lanka's Udaya Rasinghe and Nirmala Jayasinghe, who beat Shiva Gothe and Amar Lal Malla 3-2.
