JAC demands removal of health association from hospital magement

SHILLONG, May 5: The Joint action Committee (JAC), Mawsynram border area has demanded immediate removal of Voluntary Health Association of Meghalaya (VHAM) from the magement of Dangar PHC, East Khasi Hills for its alleged involvement in anomalies.
The JAC Mawsynram border area today met state Health & Family Welfare Minister, AL Hek in this regard. Speaking to reporters after the meeting Kyllang S Thongni, Chairman of the JAC Mawsynram border area said that gross anomalies have taken place in the hospital since 2008, which run by the VHAM. “According to the MOU signed between the Government of Meghalaya and the Voluntary Health Association of Meghalaya (VHAM) it was clearly mentioned that the Agency shall mage and operate the PHC and the sub-center under its jurisdiction. The Agency shall engaged its own Medical/para-Medical and other staffs for providing services and shall ensure that these personnel, are always available at the pre-decided timing,” he said. “But what we found is that the PHC are always shortage of staffs and they have failed to give medical attention to the patients during emergency and this has made the public at large, to suffer due,” he said. He also informed that according to the MOU, there are 30 numbers of essentials medicines, that should be available and should be provided free of cost to the patients, who attended the PHC. “But, unfortutely the agency is not able to provide the medicine to the patient as the said medicines are not available in the PHC,” he said. Meanwhile he also said that the Health Minister has assured to remove this agency and added that JAC would be replaced by Vedanta from Gurgoan. He further said that the local residents under the jurisdiction of Dangar PHC are facing a lot of hardship, in order to get/obtain the Births and Deaths certificates from the PHC, since the PHC are not authorized to issue the birth and death certificate as the PHC was run and maged by the agency on contractual basis and the births and deaths certificate have to be sent to the Mawsynram CHC for registering and issuing the same. “The most unfortute incidents, that took place in Nongkriah village, Hima Malaisohmat, East Khasi Hills District under the jurisdiction of Dangar PHC was that on April 4, on the occasion of the tiol De-worming Day programme has been organized in the L.P. School Nongkriah Village 4(four) children aged between three to five months, was wrongly administered medicines, meant for children between the age group of one to 19 years, and due to their carelessness, these four children were suffering from different types of health problems,” Thongni informed.
