James K Sangma not to visit Lumthari mines as of now

SHILLONG: After an ROV (remotely operated vehicle) of the Indian Navy has detected a body of one of the miner at Ksan village in East Jaintia Hills district, Meghalaya Home Minister James K Sangma on Friday said that he have not decided to visit the site as of now.

Speaking to a couple of reporters, Sangma said, “I did not have time to go and see the site, and it does not necessarily mean that if I go there the rescue operation will be speed up because even now every possible help and efforts are being pushed in the rescue operations.”

When asked, if he will visit the site in the coming days, Sangma said, “I have not decided to visit the site as of now.”

On the updates concerning the detection of a body at the illegal coal mine at Ksan, the Minister said the Navy was able to detect a body and is trying to bring it out.

“Now the government is trying to sit with various experts who are there helping out the rescue operation and discuss this matter,” he said adding that one body has been detected in which the miner did not survive and now we have to discuss with the experts as to what should be the next step and soon we will be having a meeting with the experts.

When asked, he said it going to be difficult to identify the body as it is completely disfigured however only the item of clothing or birth marks can help in identifying the body.

He said that at present it very difficult to bring the body to the surface as it is in a very highly decomposed state and having been submerge under water for so long it’s very difficult to bring it out also but all efforts are being done to retrieve the body by the rescue team.
