Jamiat Ulama Assam Dares MLA Shiladitya Dev's Comment on Role of Madrassas in Assam

Hojai: Following the controversial statement on Thursday by BJP legislator from Hojai, Shiladitya Dev against the Madrassas (Islamic religious schools), Hojai unit of Jamiat Ulama Assam on Saturday challenged the Hojai BJP legislator Shiladitya Dev’s for his alleged comment.

The Hojai unit of Jamiat Ulama Assam dared him to prove that Madrassas are promoting and teaching “unlawful, unconstitutional activities” in the region.

The Jamiat Ulama Assam unit also claimed that his (Shiladitya) statements are not acceptable at all.

MLA Shiladitya must prove his allegations against the Madrassas or else we demand for his immediate resignation from the post of Hojai MLA,” said Maulana Kalim Uddin, General Secretary, Jamiat Ulama Assam.

They also claimed that MLA Shiladitya has always targeted the Muslims people in the region.

It may be mentioned that on Thursday, the Hojai MLA alleged that Madrassas are the headquarters of the Jihadis, “they are the main production centres here, this is the place where they brainwash people in the name of religion,” said MLA Shiladitya.

“Since the Assamese Community is so liberal, these institutions (madrassas) are growing in numbers,” adding, “It is us who have given them abundant opportunities to grow along with the jihadis,” MLA Shiladitya added further.
