Silchar: The government's noble initiative 'Swachh Bharat Abhiyan' which is aimed to make rural areas, cities and town dirt and pollution free, has been well accepted and embraced by Swachhata Pakhwada programme which was launched in the month of April 2016.

Jan Shikshan Sansthan (JSS), Silchar, along with two NGOs Saksham and Silchar Leo Club embarked on a noble journey to create mass awareness regarding cleanliness. JSS organized Swachhata Pakhwada Programme 'Skill Se Sampurn Swachhata' from July 16 for 15 days at a stretch. The huge success it garnered has given an impetus to JSS, Silchar to carry forward the legacy.

In an exclusive interview with The Sentinel, Shauvik Das Choudhury, director, JSS, Silchar, said, "We have more projects in the pipeline. We are overwhelmed at the response that we received after organizing a series of such programmes. A sense of awareness is seen among the people, especially the youths. They are seen not indulging in littering their surrounds. A silent change has been noticed. It gives us an impetus to more ahead and to bring more revolutionary changes in the near future. It is indeed a big achievement for us. People have acknowledged and appreciated our work." Shauvik Das Choudhury further said that JSS has conducted such programmes at various GPs of Cachar district and it is now planning to provide and install sanitary napkin vending machines in many rural areas of Silchar and its neighbouring places. "A survey, jointly conducted by Leo Club of Silchar Vision and Lions Club of Silchar, has revealed that out of 42 families residing in Itkhola Ghat in Malugram, only one family uses sanitary pads,'' he added.
