Jawan killed in firing with NSCN (IM) in Arunachal

Itanagar: An army jawan of the 19th Sikh Regiment was killed and three others suffered injuries in a fire fight between suspected Nationalist Socialist Council of Nagaland (Issac-Muivah) cadre and the Indian Army in Longding district of Arunachal Pradesh on Saturday, Defence sources informed here on Sunday. The martyred jawan has been identified as Lance Naik Sukhchain Singh. Longding SP Rohit Meena while confirming the report informed that the incident took place between Longsom and Wanu villages at around 6 am.

Meena further informed that the injured personnel have been shifted to the military hospital at Dinjan in Assam’s Tinsukia district.

No casualty among the NSCN cadre was reported.

An alleged hardcore operative of the NSCN (IM) was killed in an encounter with security forces in Longding district on Thursday morning during an operation carried out by the Khonsa battalion of the Assam Rifles near Longkai village.

The operative was identified as a ‘captain’ of the NSCN (IM).

Two AK-56 rifles and a large quantity of ammunition were recovered from the site of the encounter.
