JHADC CEM urges DoNER Minister to release funds

SHILLONG, July 5: The Chief Executive Member of Jaiñtia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC) Madonbai Rymbai during the Jaintia festival ‘Behdienkhlam’ which was held on July 3, submitted a memorandum to the Minister of DoNER Jitendra Singh who was attending the festival seeking the intervention of the Central Government concerning the Re-development of Iawmusiang Market, Jowai. “We have submitted the memorandum to the Minister of DoNER and urged him to release the sanction funds for the 2nd Installment of Iawmusiang market project in Jowai”, the CEM said while informing that the JHADC has utilized the 1st installment amounting to Rs 6.33 crore which was released by the department of DoNER to construct the ground floor, parking lot besides others.

“The JHADC has also submitted the Utilization Certificate (UC) to the Ministry of DoNER concerning the utilization of the 1st installment,” Rymbai, said.

The JHADC is still awaiting the release of the 2nd installment and because of this the completion of the project is being delayed. The Central Government had sanctioned for the project in the year 2005.

The CEM also said that the Council is in search of other schemes from Niti Aayog through the Special Assistance Grant for the district council so that this project which has been left pending for so many years will be completed.

It may be reminded that the Ministry of DoNER has sanctioned Rs 20.09 crore for the project.

The CEM also informed that during the discussion with the Minister of DoNER, the latter had assured that he will take up the matter concerning the project seriously to make sure that the project is completed. “This project was sanctioned by the Ministry of DoNER in the year 2005, through the Non-Lapsable Central Pool of Resources (NLCPR) Scheme and the 1st Installment was released in the year 2009 ,” Madonbai Rymbai said.
