LAKHIMPUR: Jimochayan (Deori) People’s Party (JPP) will contest in the forthcoming general election in Lakhimpur parliamentary constituency with the help of various ethnic organizations of the State. This was declared by Padma Deori, the chief secretary of JPP, at a press meet held at North Lakhimpur Press Club on Tuesday.

Addressing the mediapersons, the chief secretary said that the party had decided to contest in the election in order to fill up the void of a regional party which followed the true ideology of regional politics. “The burning problems of the State have not been resolved till date. The national parties have betrayed the ethnic communities of Assam with false electoral promises instead of raising their crucial problems in the Parliament. As a result, they have been suffering since ages. So, our party has decided to contest in the ensuing election to fight on behalf of them,” said Deori.

The party declared Purna Kanta Deori as the candidate for Lakhimpur parliamentary constituency. The party plans to contest in the Tezpur parliamentary constituency too. Opposition to the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, flawless update of NRC, opposition to big river dams, demand for the declaration of flood and erosion problem in Assam as national problem and raising the problems of the indigenous communities of the State in the Parliament will be the issues of the party in the election.

Chief spokesman of the party, Hema Ram Deori claimed that the party would be a crucial factor in the constituency with one lakh Deori voters and with the support of various ethnic organizations. Candidate Purna Kanta Deori also addressed the media persons in the press meet wherein State members Lakhi Singh Deori, Abhi Deori and several other dignitaries were present.
