TINSUKIA: Deeply concerned over the decisive attitude of BJP-led Modi Government on the issue of granting ST status to 6 indigenous communities namely Mattak, Moran, Koch-Bajbongshi, Tea Tribes, Chutia and Ahom, the Janagusthio Oikya Manch (JOM), a joint forum threatened to launch a series of agitation unless a Bill relating ST status to 6 communities was introduced and approved in both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha on the 1st day of the Parliament session to begin on January 31.

In a press meet held at Badousa Bhawan Tinsukia on Wednesday after holding a Working Committee meeting and represented by AMSU president Arun Jyoti Moran, president Koch-Bajbongshi Sangram Samity Atul Roy, Asom Chah Janajati Chatra Santha president Rajen Kumar, president Chutia Yuba Sanmilan Bitopan Saikia, AAMYCS president David Chetia, the speakers were unanimous in criticising the BJP Government. Uncertainty looms large after the Assam Government constituted two committees headed by Himanta Biswa Sarma and Chandra Mohan Patowary even as the report of Modality Committee constituted by the Central Government was approved, informed Arun Jyoti Moran.

While announcing phases of agitation, Arun Jyoti Moran said on January 24 the JOM will stage demonstration at Guwahati. If a Bill was not tabled in Parliament, it will resort to BJP boycott, rail and air blockade besides economic and coal blockade with an intention to disrupt normal life in Assam.
