Joint mock drill on earthquake

GUWAHATI, June 27: An awareness programme on disaster management was conducted by Medical College Silchar on Wednesday for developing awareness on disaster management and co-ordination among the various agencies in disaster response. The programme was followed by a joint mock drill on earthquake situation. A team of 30 NDRF personnel participated in the programme. Superintendent of Medical College Silchar co-ordinated the event.

The drill was conducted as per the international standards and was focused on safe-patient evacuation in case of an emergency. Hospital staff were also given hands-on training in case of an emergency or disaster.

The NDRF and hospital staff jointly displayed amazing skills during mock drill, they rescued/evacuated 21 victims placed under various simulated scenarios. The equipments and man power used in the exercise played a crucial role in the rescue operations.

Around 470 personnel consisting of 400 students of Medical College Silchar, Doctors, Hospital staff, SDRF, Fire & emergency service, Police, Security staff, DDMA participated in the joint mock drill, a press release stated.
