Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) meet remains inconclusive

GUWAHATI: The crucial meeting between the Union Home Ministry and Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) on the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 in New Delhi on Tuesday remained inconclusive without reaching the final decision. According to sources, BJP MPs Ramen Deka and Kamakhya Prasad Tasha from Assam were not present at the meeting.

According to sources, the final decision for tabling the Bill in the Winter Session of Parliament will be taken by JPC members soon. One of the Committee members Bhubaneshwar Kalita gave a new twist to the issue by saying that the proposed legislation must exempt the Northeast from its purview.
