Judicial employees to wear black badges as mark of protest

DHUBRI, July 11: Employees of the subordinate judicial courts of Assam affiliated to All Assam Judicial Employees’ Association (AAJEA) will wear black badges across the State on July 26 in protest against non-fulfilment of their long-pending demands. A resolution was adopted in an emergent general meeting of AAJEA held in Guwahati in the court premises of the District and Sessions Judge, Kamrup (metro) last week.

A source in the association here alleged that in spite of memorandum submitted before the State government for implementation of the Justice Shetty Commission recommendations as well as publication of service rule of the judicial employees, nothing tangible has been done in this direction to fulfil the demands so far. A source in the association alleged that recommendation of the Shetty Commission as regards to Bench Assistant Grade-1, Grade-2, Grade-3, re-designation of Sheristadar of DJ and other legal statutes as Chief Administrative Officer, regular TA of process server, 5 per cent of the basic pay as duty allowance in Lok Adalat and service rule have not also been implemented yet.

Moreover, the agitation will also be staged in protest against non-inclusion of pay scale as well as posts of the staff of the subordinate judiciary in Assam in the Revision of Pay 2017 in compliance of the report published in page no.157 para 1.20 by the 7th Assam Pay and Productivity Commission, as well as the demands for graduate pay scale and advance increment to law graduate employees, source further alleged.

General secretary of AAJEA, Ananta Prasad, while expressing their resentment here at the Dhubri District and Session Judge premises for unusual delay in publication of the same, informed that the association had moved from pillar to post, including Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and State Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, and urged upon them to intervene in the matter for speedy and early implementation of all the recommendations but no step whatsoever was taken so far to fulfil the demands of the employees.

“Under the circumstance, we find no other way but to go for agitation to get our demands fulfilled. Protest with black badge on July 26 without hampering the official works will be an agitation in the first phase while next round of agitation programme will be announced in the days to come,” Prasad added.
