Junmoni Gogoi Clinches Chess Title in 42nd All Assam Inter-District Chess Championship

GUWAHATI: Junmoni Gogoi of Jorhat clinched the title in the 42nd All Assam Inter-District Chess Championship-2019 held at Tezpur recently. Junmoni bagged 4 points from five rounds on way to finish at top. Jyotirekha Saikia Konwar of Sivasagar scored 3.5 points and got second position. Natasha Dutta of Guwahati and Pinki Das of Sonitpur also scored 3.5 points each but declared third and fourth position respectively on the basis of their tie-break score.

In under-19 (Boys) category Amlan Mahanta of Guwahati scored 5.5 points from 6 rounds to clinch the title. Pallab Bhattacharjee of Guwahati got second position with 5 points. In under-19 (Girls) category Dipnalisha Borah of Sonitpur clinched the title by scoring 4.5 points. Winee Thengal of Golaghat scored 4 points and got second position.

In under-11 (Boys) category Vivek Rajkumar of Dibrugarh scored 6 points from 7 rounds on way to emerge champion. Abhash Romiya Saikia of Dibrugarh and Yuwan Das of Tinsukia also scored 6 points each but declared second and third respectively according to their tie-break score. In under-11 (Girls) category Ikshita Barman of Guwahati scored perfect 6 points from 6 rounds to clinch the title. Pritilakshmi Kashyap of Sonitpur got second position by scoring 4.5 points.

Meanwhile Assam chess team for the National women Championship is announced today. The competition would be held at Madurai from July 19. The squad: Junmoni Gogoi, Jyotirekha Saikia Konwar, Natasha Dutta, Pinki Das.
