K Sobita succumbs to injuries

IMPHAL March 30: K.  Sobita who survived the crackdown of the security forces including police on June 18, 2001 died on Saturday night. She was hit by a bullet and one leg had to be amputated.

It was a people’s agitation against the extension of the ceasefire with the NSCN(IM) without territorial limits. 18 persons were martyred and many others wounded. Sobita was one of the victims who somehow survived.

However the government and other NGOs had no time or money for her with the resutt that she did not have any house. A women’s organisation brought her to a room in a school at Yairipok in Thoubal district where she was given free accommodation. She had a slow and painful death. The school authoirty and the founder of the school had extended help generously to her treatment.
