KAAC CEM opposes granting ST (H) status to Bodos

Donkamukam: “During the ASDC/ CPI (ML) rule when Dr Jayanta Rongpi was MP and at the same time CEM of KAAC, the historic resolution was taken by the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) to grant ST (H) status to Bodos living in Karbi Anglong.

We are not against the Bodo community but they are already enjoying ST (P) status in Assam and one tribe getting both ST (H) and ST (P) status in one State is not acceptable to us,” said KAAC CEM Tuliram Ronghang while attending the programme for distribution of appointment letters to page in-charges under Rongkhang Block Mandal BJP meet at Tumpreng in West Karbi Anglong on Sunday.

“The present KAAC is against Clause VIII of the BLT Accord and we have adopted resolutions against it and we will approach the higher-ups for scrapping it. At the same time we are deeply concerned about the false propaganda of former MP Dr Jayanta Rongpi who is communalizing the issue,” he further said.

The CEM vehemently criticized the opposition saying that they were cheating the people of Karbi Anglong in the name of implementing Article 244 (A). KAAC EM Mongolsing Timung urged all the page in-charges to create awareness among the people about the party’s achievements.

Presided over by Mongolsing Bey, president of Rongkhang Block BJP Committee, the meeting was also attended by EMs Prodip Rongpi and Lunsing Teron, among others.
