Kamrup(M) DC lays down roadmap for success of MFFG

GUWAHATI, May 10: With the rainy season having already begun and keeping in view the havoc let loose by flash flood and water logging in the city over the last few years,  Kamrup (M) Deputy Commissioner  held a meeting at the Circuit House in Guwahati on Thursday which was attended by representatives from departments and agencies like Water Resource, PWD, PHE, Health, APDCL, GMC, GMDA, NHAI, NFR, Air Force, Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and Gammon.

With the objective of Mission Flood Free Guwahati (MFFG), the meeting primarily focused on artificial flood and water logging in Guwahati and means to overcome the menace faced by the city residents.

It was pointed out by the Deputy Commissioner in the meeting that all obstructions in the flow of water in the drains below footpaths and the water bodies should be removed. For the purpose it was decided that the drains be properly cleared up on a regular basis. He directed the concerned officials that the culverts and the drains be kept free from any kind of obstruction.

The concerned officials have also been directed to ensure that there is no water logging on the sides of the national highways and that culverts be kept free of all obstruction to facilitate the flow of water.

On the other hand, APDCL has been directed to ensure that there be no untoward incident caused mainly by snapping of power cables during the rainy season.

The forest department has been directed to carry out a survey of roadside trees within May 15 and to take necessary measures to ensure that fallen branches do not cause any mishap.

The deplorable condition of Manik Ch Choudhury road in Chandmari and Birubari- Bhangagarh road  also figured in the meeting

While a large number of roads in the city are in damaged condition on account of laying down of water pipes, the concerned agencies have been directed to take corrective steps immediately failing which the administration would initiate action against the defaulting agencies.
