As per an earlier report, the budget of Manikarnika rapidly escalated from Rs 60 crore to Rs 125 crore after a series of production delays and reshoots. What was initially slated to be a 10-day-patchwork shoot has expanded into a 45-day-schedule. The decision, as stated in the report, was taken after the initial rushes of the film turned out different from what was conceptualized, vastly deviating from the KV Vijayendra Prasad script that was approved.

Kangna Ranaut will be seen as playing the role of Rani Laxmibai in the movie "Manikarnika-The Queen Of Jhansi". The makers of the film chose Independence Day to release its first poster of the much-anticipated film.

Filmmaker Krish Jagarlamudi shared the picture on the 72nd Independence Day of India as an ode to the freedom fighter. As per sources, the film depicts Kangana as the fierce warrior queen Rani Laxmi Bai. The first and most awaiting poster appears to be a still from a battlefield where Kangana, rides a horse and her baby is tied at her back. It may be mentioned that the film is based on the story of Rani Laxmi Bai’s battle with the East India Company. She was one of the first freedom fighters of India.

Shariq Patel, CEO, Zee Studios said, “The film is mounted on a massive scale to justify the extraordinary story of Rani of Jhansi — her courage, her strength, and her great love for the country. Who better than Kangana Ranaut to portray her on the big screen, we couldn’t have been happier with the way the campaign is coming together,” Shariq Patel, CEO, Zee Studios said.

Producer Kamal Jain said that Rani Laxmibai is the ‘symbol of heroism in India’ and is hopeful that “Manikarnika” will give an appropriate acknowledgement to sacrifices.

“We believe, with this magnum opus action drama, we will be able to pay fitting tribute to this hero, and inspire the current generation, along with the ones to come. We embark on the journey of presenting this larger-than-life tale of determination, strength, and valor on this Independence Day,” he added.

Meanwhile, after Sonu opted out of Manikarnika, citing schedule clash with his upcoming film Simba, Zeeshan Ayyub, Kangana Ranaut's co-actor from Tanu Weds Manu, was roped in to play the role of Sadashiv Narayan Rao. The cast also includes television actress Ankita Lokhande, veteran actor Suresh Oberoi and Bengali actor Jisshu Sengupta among others.

Directed by Krish and produced by Zee Studios, in association with Jain the story of bravery, might and determination "Manikarnika-The Queen of Jhansi" will hit the theatres on January 25, 2019.
