Kanubari to witness straight contest between PPA and Congress

Itagar, May 3: With the Independent candidate Wangrang Wangjen withdrawing his candidature from the fray on the last date of withdrawal of papers yesterday, Kanubari constituency in Longding district is all set to witness a straight contest in the by-poll slated for May 16 next.
PPA candidate Gabriel Denwang Wangsu is locking horns with Jyae Wangsu of the Congress, an official release informed here today.
While voting would take place on May 16, counting of votes would be on May 19 next. The seat fell vacant after Wangsu resigned. The Election Commission of India has deputed Samir Kumar Bhattacharya as general observer and Pauzakham Ngaigte as expenditure observer to observe the poll process, the release informed.
Altogether 10736 electorates including 5,262 female voters will exercise their franchise in 28 polling booths. While two model polling stations are being set up, two another to be manned extensively by women are being arranged. In two other polling stations, at least two women polling officers would be part of the polling team. Training for the election related officials is scheduled tomorrow, the release added.
