MORIGAON: The mighty River Brahmaputra has been causing large-scale erosion in the north-west side of Morigaon district. The people of the riverine areas of Negnribori, Betoni, Batabori, Tengaguri, Kacharigaon and Kapurpura under Bhuragaon revenue circle of the district have been passing sleepless nights due to continuous large-scale erosion by the Brahmaputra for the past one week. Of late, the Kapurpura area has been adversely affected by erosion. Almost half of the rock embankment at Kapurpura which was built at a cost of Rs 3 crore in 2007 has been washed away. About 200 families had been living near the embankment but since half of the embankment has been washed away, these families have been rendered homeless.
