Katigorah people raise question about sub division

SPECIAL CORRESPONDENT

SILCHAR, March 10: The declaration of four revenue circles of Katigorah, Ramkrish gar, Patharkandi and Katlicherra to upgrade them as sub division is yet to show any sign of state move to implement it in letter and spirit. Except generating enthusiasm among the people of the circles concerned and to keep them in good humour just on the eve of assembly elections, nothing has so far been done on the ground. The voices of discordant and displeasure are being raised from these areas, waiting for some concrete action.

It is now more than clear that the declaration is nothing short of a poll gimmick by the Chief Minister of Assam. bendu Shekhar th, president of Katigorah Development Committee, expressing his anguish said the people of the circle close to Bangladesh border have been fighting for a sub division for a long time. He recalls series of agitations, representations and even blockade of tiol highway to focus on the demand and draw the attention of the state government. So long, nothing was done. But, with poll near, the Chief Minister knew his political expediency and declared sub divisions after sub divisions.

bendu Shekhar th pointed out quite recently the circle office at Katigorah was upgraded as civil administrative office to indicate that all is moving on track to make the revenue circle a sub division. In order to mark the day, a function was organized at the behest of civil administration. Unfortutely, no senior citizens associated with the long drawn movement for sub division were invited, hurting the sentiments and feelings of the people of the area. This has become a matter of controversy and various questions are being raised at whose behest the programme was organized.

bendu Shekhar th at the same time raised his accusing finger at the way funds allotted for various welfare schemes for the poor and margilized people have been being squandered away by a group of people with questioble integrity. In fact, the doles and freebees under Chief Minister’s package have not reached those for whom it has been meant, alleged th. As a member of Indian tiol Congress, he said it would have been better for the Chief Minister to focus on the demands of people for repairing and improvement of the tiol Highway 6, the life line of supply for not only Barak Valley but also for Mizoram, Tripura and Manipur. Moreover, the attention should have been given to the embankments which stand in need of immediate repair works and strengthening in view of the impending monsoon.
