KHADC grants NOC to two-lane project

FROM A CORRESPONDENT
Tura, July 27: The Executive Committee (EC) of the Khasi Hill Autonomous District Council (KHADC) today granted NOC for construction of the two lane project from Nongstoin, Rangblang to Wahkaji. The EC however did not give NOC for extending the road project to Mawthabah. This development comes two days after, KHADC, Chief Executive Member (CEM), Pynshngain N Syiem telling the tiol Highway Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) that it was not ready to issue NOC for the 68 km Nongstoin-Pambriew-Wahkaji-Mawthabah road. Earlier various groups opposed the two lane road as they claimed that it would facilitate mining of uranium at Kylleng-Pyndengsohiong-Mawthabah (KPM) in South West Khasi Hills district.    “The EC today decided to grant NOC for two-laning only the Nongstoin - Rangblang – Wahkaji stretch of the road,” sources informed. “The granting of NOC is only upto Wahkaji and for the stretch leading to Mawthabah, NOC have not been granted yet because of difficulties (due to opposition) on this particular route to Mawthabah,” sources added. This decision of the EC may anger the group opposed to the two-laning project.
