KHADC suspends Latho Manik Syiem, appoints Ricky Nelson as acting Syiem

SHILLONG, April 22: The rebel Myntris who had been demanding the immediate removal of Syiem (Chief) of Hima Mylliem, Latho Manik Syiem on Friday tasted victory after the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) issued an order to suspend the current Syiem and assign Ricky Nelson Syiem as acting Syiem of Hima Mylliem.

It may be reminded that 29 rebel Myntris out of 42 had on April 4, attendant a meeting convened by officials of the Elaka department of the District Council to supposedly indicate the number of Mintris supporting the Syiem of Hima Mylliem and those who are against him, however the Myntris who are in the ruling did not attend the meeting.

Speaking to newsmen after being appointed as the new Syiem of Hima Mylliem, Ricky Nelson said, “Now that I have taken the reign as the new Syiem my job is to rectify all the problems of the Hima and to bring transparency in the functioning of the Hima in order to once again get the confidence of all the people and Myntris.”

“From now onwards any decision taken for the betterment of the Hima should first be consulted with other Myntris and not by my word alone,” he said.

Stating that Hima Mylliem is a place which welcomes all Myntris from different clans, he said there is a need for cooperation from both the ruling and the opposition party for the welfare of the Hima.

The new Syiem also said that he does not want to see anymore opposition or ruling party in the Hima but instead everyone should come under one umbrella to serve for the interests the Hima.
