Khandu worried over decline of tribal languages

Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu on Wednesday expressed concern on the gradual decline of local languages in the State.

Addressing the people on the occasion of Boori Boot Yullo festival at Dollungmukh in Kamle district, Khandu lamented on usage of non-local languages in homes and expressed concern over growing number of tribal families in the State interacting with their children in English and Hindi.

He appealed to the people for preservation of local languages saying that the essence of culture is in the language and without it, the very fabric of culture will be destroyed.

Khandu requested the community bodies to discuss on the gradual decline of local languages in their community platform, a CMO communiqué informed.

The Chief Minister said the diversity that the State offers is unchallenged. He appealed to the people to make use of such rich cultural diversity for promotion of tourism.

Khandu said foreign tourists come to Arunachal not to get the feel of modernity but of the true rich indigenous culture that is authentic and pure. “The tourists visit to get experience of the indigenous tribal culture. And tourism is among the fastest growing sections of the economy today,” the Chief Minister pointed out.

On developmental issues, Khandu said considering the vast geographical area of Raga constituency, its isolation and backwardness, the government has accepted the demand for creation of the Kamle district. He said the State Government would continue to support the creation of infrastructures in the district. The Chief Minister assured to fund the construction of SDO secretariat building and for repair and maintenance of existing government office infrastructure.

Khandu also inaugurated the new sub-divisional office and laid the foundation stone for the PWD sub-division office while Deputy Chief Minister who accompanied Khandu, laid the foundation stone for a 100-bedded VKV girls hostel.
