Khasi Students Union (KSU) threatens to build ‘Entry and Exit Points’

SHILLONG: The Khasi Students Union (KSU) central body on Thursday has threatened to build their own Entry and Exit Point if the government continues to delay the setting up the Entry and Exit Points across Meghalaya.

The pro-ILP pressure groups consisting of various NGOs from the state today held discussion with the state government on the Meghalaya Residents Safety and Security Act 2016, Entry and Exit Point beside others.

Speaking to reporters after a meeting with the Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma, KSU president Lambokstarwell Marngar, said, “This is our first meeting with the new government and we have sought an update on the setting up of the Entry and Exit Point to check the illegal influx of immigrants into the state however we are not satisfied with the meeting we have had with the government today.”

He said that the pressure groups are not satisfied with the meeting because despite the fact that the government has identified a number of locations in the state to set up the entry and exit points but they are still unable to finalize on these locations.

“We have made it clear to the state government that as they have made an assurance that the government is committed and serious on this issue of influx hence the Entry and Exit Points should be set up immediately,” he said.

He said that the state government should also kick start the first phase of setting up the Entry and Exit Points in different parts of the state.

“If the government continues to give excuses that things are being delayed because of land issues then we will be forced to set up our Entry and Exit Points to check influx,” he said.

Meanwhile, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma said, “Some people feel that Inner Line Permit (ILP) is the only solution to check influx but this matter also needs to be further examined and discussed.”
