Khatkhati Police check-post dismantled, security of residents jeopardized

From a Correspondent

Bokajan, July 3: The Khatkhati Police check post on NH-39 in Assam-galand inter-State border has suddenly been dismantled and left unguarded much to the surprise of the local residents. The check post incidentally happens to be the last police check into the State of galand and was operating round-the-clock to put in place a tight policing mechanism along the border. Additiolly, the check post has been keeping a tab on the movement of crimils and anti-social elements since past three decades.

The area has always been in the news for its notoriety of armed exponents. There has also been a steady rise in vehicle theft cases as this place borders galand and stolen vehicles can easily be smuggled into that State. Residents here spend sleepless nights as risk of their vehicles getting stolen runs high. There is a growing sense of insecurity amongst the residents for the unguarded post will in turn encourage anti-social elements to move in and out the State without fear.

The police personnel attached to the check post recovered at least six pistols, seven stolen vehicles, including an excavator, and over 1000 kg ganja as per reports in the past three months.

Residents, VDPs and many concerned citizens of this industrial town have called for restoration of the police check post considering the interests of the local residents.
