KHM sets 14-day deadline for Energy Corporation

FROM A REPORTER

SHILLONG, Feb 8: Khun Hynniewtrep tiol Awakening Movement (KHM), State Youth Wing on Wednesday set a 13-day deadline to Meghalaya Energy Corporation Limited (MeECL), for distribution of appointments letters to 772 successful candidates for the post (jugali) helpers.

On January 16, more than 250 candidates applying for the post of Jugali (helpers) along with members of KHM staged a dhar in front of MeECL gate, at Lumjingshai protesting against the delay in issuing appointment letters.

“We have submitted memorandums to the Ministers and MeECL officials several times demanding appointment of these candidates. We are forced to take to the streets due to inordite delay in the distribution of appointment letters. If the Corporation and state government cannot fulfill our demands within the stipulated time, we will have to announce agitation programmes,” KHM Youth Wing president Thomas Passah told reporters here on Wednesday.

Urging the Power Minister for his intervention, he however said, “If even the concerned Minister cannot intervene then it is very unfortute”

Informing that earlier the MeECL had cited the reason for delay in issuing the appointment letters was due to lack of funds, he said, “However after announcing the results on August 2, 2016, till date not a single candidate has been issued any appointment letter and instead the MeECL are now giving a different excuse citing that the delay is due to the unfinished police verification by some of the candidates, which is ucceptable.”

Out of the 772 candidates 306 are in phase I, 233 each in phase II and Phase III.
