KHNAM seeks enforcement personnel to conduct checking

SHILLONG, April 26:  The Khun Kynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM) State Youth Wing (SYW) has requested the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) to provide enforcement personnel on April 30, for conducting careful checking of errant non-tribal drivers (taxi and tourist) who are conducting business without proper licence. Recently, the State Youth Wing of KHNAM along with the Hynniewtrep Tourist Taxi Association (HTTA) and East Khasi Hills Taxi Association (EKHTA), on April 16, had issued a two-week deadline to KHADC CEM PN Syiem to conduct surprise checking on non-tribal drivers, who are conducting business without obtaining proper labour licence from the council. “As the council has failed to communicate with us and we’ve not seen any such initiative from the council to carry out checking, hence we’ve decided to take on the issue ourselves. We’ve also asked the council to provide enforcement personnel to accompany us on April 30 at 11am in the morning,” president of the State Youth Wing of KHNAM Thomas Passah said. KHNAM, in this regard, has submitted a letter to the KHADC CEM PN Syiem and also to the Executive member in-charge of labour at KHADC. The movement has also requested the non-tribal drivers (taxi and tourist) to stop conducting their business of ferrying passengers if they do not posses proper labour licence from the district council. “We urge them to first apply for a labour licence from the KHADC so that they can continue their business,” he said.
