Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement Urges For Deployment Of Additional Forces

SHILLONG: The Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM) has urged the State government to take additional steps and deploy additional forces in the inter State border and to secure all the entry points to the state.

In this, connection KHNAM has also submitted a memorandum to the Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma. Pyndapborthiaw Saibon KHNAM president pointed out that the neighbouring States with Assam has been on high alert after the declaration of the final NRC on July 30 leaving approximately more than 4 million doubtful residents of Assam out of the NRC. “When the Draft NRC was notified last year, the party have approached the Home Minister of the previous Government and requested for deployment of additional police forces to prevent entry of these illegal immigrants in the State of Meghalaya, however, no step has been initiated by the previous Government,” he said.

Saibon also said that after the notification of the final NRC there is a fear that these illegal immigrants could penetrate into other States. “Meghalaya being a soft target to illegal immigrants for the last five decades, therefore, there is an urgent need for the Government to take additional steps and deploy additional forces in the inter State border, secure all the entry points to the state and the infiltration check gates and various police station in all districts also needs to be on high alert to avoid and prevent entry of illegal immigrants into the State,” he said. He also requested the government to take necessary step on the matter for the security and welfare of the State of Meghalaya.
