Kidnappers on The Prowl in State with Unbelievably Increasing Kidnapping Cases!

2,421 kidnapping cases registered in four months this year

STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI: As though kidnappers are on the prowl in Assam, the first four months of 2018 have registered a sharp rise in kidnapping cases in the State. Believe it or not, the statistics obtained from none other than the police say that as many as 2,421 kidnapping cases have been in the State this year till April-end.

According to statistics obtained from the police, in 2017 as many as 6,822 kidnapping cases were registered across the State. In 2018 till April, 2421 kidnapping cases have been registered in State were 2,421. This, at any rate, is a steep rise in kidnapping in the State.

Notably, diverting from earlier trend of kidnapping individuals from financially well off background for ransom, miscreants from all quarters have intensified kidnapping, irrespective of minors and adult, rich and poor. Categorically, trafficking of women for sex works has been posing a challenge in the State. The trend is so alarming that including Assam, trafficking of women from the north-eastern states to other places of India has become a major concern.

Eventually, over the last five years, there was no decline of kidnappings in the State. In 2016, there were altogether 6,137 registered cases of kidnapping. In 2015, there were 6103 and in 2014 there were 5378 such cases, while there were 4,831 cases of kidnappings in 2013.

What is more critical and challenging is that a section of women is involved in the trafficking of women.
