KMSS observes black day

Citizenship Bill

A CORRESPONDENT

LAKHIMPUR, April 17: Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) strongly protested the Joint Parliamentary Committee’s initiative of holding the hearing on Citizenship (Amendment) Bill on Tuesday during the Bihu festival with a view to grant citizenship to the Hindu Bangladeshis in Assam. Various organizations of the State suggested to the Joint Parliamentary Committee not to hold the hearing of the controversial bill during the Bihu festival.  But the committee allegedly did not pay any heed to the suggestion and held the hearing on Tuesday. The Lakhimpur district committee of the KMSS expressed resentment against the alleged arrogant attitude of the Joint Parliamentary Committee and observed ‘black day’. The organization hoisted 100 black flags at Tyag Kshetra of North Lakhimpur town. North Lakhimpur police later seized the flags.
