Koch-Rajbongshi Xahitya Xabha president passes away

Bongaigaon, May 28: Arun Kumar Ray, president of Koch-Rajbongshi Xahitya Xabha, passed away on Saturday at 3.30 pm at his residence at Siponsila in Bongaigaon district. He was 92. He was suffering from old-age ailment since a long time.
“Arun Kumar Ray was born on October 8, 1925 in Boitamari area of present Bongaigaon district. He had studied up to Class 10 in Birjhora HS School of Bongaigaon. First he served as homeguard in Gouripur area of present Dhubri district. After that, he joined in Bengtol MV School as assistant teacher. Then he came in contact with Bishnu Rabha and was inspired by his persolity. He joined the Revolutiory Communist Party of India and became an active member of the Indian freedom movement. He was arrested twice. Later he joined the CPI and also contested in Bongaigaon LAC twice as CPI candidate. He was attached with the communist party for three decades. Later he joined the Congress. He contested from Bongaigaon LAC as Congress candidate in the year 1991,” said Kunja Mohan Ray, senior jourlist of Bongaigaon.
“Arun Kumar Ray was the founder president of Koch-Rajbongshi Xahitya Xabha. He had written more than 10 books on Koch- Rajbongshi culture. Each of these books is like a precious pearl of Koch- Rajbongshi culture. The first Koch Rajbongshi dictiory was written by him which had been published on December 4, 2014,” said Ranjit Kumar Sarma, senior jourlist of Bongaigaon.
“Among his other activities, he had founded Siponsila High School of Bongaigaon and remained founder president of school governing body. He was publicity secretary of All Assam Karmachari Parishad, chairperson of VDP of North Salmara sub-division, chairperson of sub-division Parishad and central executive member of Koch- Rajbongshi Sanmilani,” said Girish Barua, social worker and secretary of APCC.
Several organizations including Koch- Rajbongshi Xahitya Xabha, Assam Xahitya Xabha, AKRSU (both factions), Assam Pradesh Congress Committee, Bongaigaon district AGP, AJYCP, AASU, Greater Bongaigaon Press Club, Bijni Press Club, Chirang district Press Club, All Assam Press Correspondents’ Union, Jourlist Federation of Assam and Indian Jourlist Union paid tribute to the great persolity and termed his demise as a big loss.
