Kokrajhar DTO aims to eradicate Tuberculosis by 2022

KOKRAJHAR: The Government of India has taken up a challenge to eradicate tuberculosis by 2025 in India. However, the District TB Officer (DTO), Kokrajhar, aims to complete eradication of the disease by 2022 and has been working wholeheartedly to achieve the target. In this connection, for the first time in the State, the District TB Forum was formed recently at RN Brahma Civil Hospital, Kokrajhar, to curb the disease in a strategic way. The new District TB Forum was formed with BTC Principal Secretary as chairman and Secretary of Health, BTC, as co-chairman.

In his speech, the BTC EM of Sports and Youth Welfare, Doneswar Goyary said TB was considered to be one of the most deadly diseases. He said the disease was curable but people did not have proper knowledge regarding the government facilities to curb the disease. He said most of the people in remote places were not aware about the free treatment and medicines provided by the government and therefore, there should be public awareness. He also said the industrial areas and remote villages were vulnerable for TB. He also hailed the efforts of DTO, Kokrajhar, to curb the disease and to eliminate it by 2022.

The Joint Director, Health Services, BTC, Dr. AJ Ahmed said TB was an infectious disease. It was the second killer after road accidents worldwide. Dr. Anikhet Choudhury, Consultant of WHO, said the formation of a new forum to tackle the disease was very important and it was the first forum in the State.
