KSU activists remanded in 14 days judicial custody

SHILLONG, June 4: Two Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) activists were today remanded to 14 days judicial custody after their police custody ended.

The two KSU leaders- Ferdyld Kharkamni president of the KSU North Khasi Hills unit and Sonstar Nongkhlaw central body assistant general secretary were remanded to judicial custody by the Chief Judicial Magistrate of the District Session Court, Nongpoh.

The duo were arrested in connection with the attack at a railway construction site at Rongho village near Byrnihat on May 27 last.

It may be mentioned that apart from the duo, three others were arrested in connection with the violence at the railway construction site.

These include Jayand Sylliang, sports secretary, KSU North Khasi Hills, Johnny Nongrum, member, KSU North Khasi Hills and Sabathani Lyngdoh, assistant office secretary, KSU North Khasi Hills.

Moreover, East Khasi Hills police has arrested three KSU members in Shillong for their alleged involvement in arson cases in the city.

The three include of the Sabir Jyrwa (31) and Phrang Warjri (26) of Nongmynsong unit and Eric Nongkynrih president of Nongthymmai unit in the city.

Jyrwa and Warjri were arrested for their alleged involvement in the petrol bomb attack police requisition bus (ML-05P-8518) at Lailad, Nongmynsong, Shillong on June 1 and Nongkynrih was arrested for his involvement in the petrol bomb attack at the Rynjah Police station on the night of May 27.
