KSU reiterates its decision to oppose rail project

FROM A REPORTER
SHILLONG, Feb 3: The Khasi Students Union (KSU), central body, has reiterated its decision to oppose Railway project in the state until and unless the state government fast-track the implementation of the Comprehensive Mechanism to tackle influx and Meghalaya Residents Safety & Security Act 2016, by constituting a District Task Force. Speaking to reporters here on Friday, KSU president Daniel Khyriem said, “In our state at present there is no Act which will tackle the issue of influx and when the government comes up with such Acts or mechanism then only we will discuss on the issue.” The Union leader, however, informed that in connection with the issue concerning Railway project in the state the KHADC Chief has told them that he (P N Syiem) will be holding a meeting with all the stakeholders on the issue. “We will continue to oppose both the goods train and passenger train coming into the state because many cases of influx is created when people sneak into the goods train as not a lot of checking is done on such trains,” he said.
