Kuladhar Saikia appointed DGP

GUWAHATI, April 25: The Assam Government has promoted and posted its special DG (law and order) Kuladhar Saikia as the new Director General of Police (DGP). The litterateur, who had a Sahitya Akademi award (2015) and a Kotha Sahitya Award (2000) to his credit, is going take charge as the DGP on May 1, 2018.

Born in 1959 and a 1985 batch IPS officer he had his schooling in Rangiya High School. He had his college education in Ram Das College, Delhi and MA in Economics from Delhi School of Economics. He also has a Ph D degree from IIT-Guwahati on ‘Crimes in Economics’. She also studied at Pennsylvania State University in the USA. He had been guest speakers at IIM-Ahmedabad and Luknow, and National University of Singapore. He was also associated with the World Bank.  He received police medals from the President of India twice. He is going to serve the State as DGP for 11 months.

Talking to the media, Saikia said: “I’ll live to the Chief Minister’s confidence in me. My thrust area is to boost the police-public relationship.”
