Lack of self-respect

We all know that continuation of the same party forming the government is the negation of democracy. We also find a manifestation of the fact in the person of Paramanda Rajbonshi. Rajbonshi, by any means, fair or foul, tried his best to cling to his post; he must have been under the impression that there is dearth of competent person who could hold the post or there is none to hold the post next to him. That this person (Mr. Rajbonshi) lacks self-respect is apparent from the way he had been driven out of the centery celebration of the Axom Xahitya Xabha held at Sivasagar. We are surprised to observe a person who in the teeth of heavy odds ventured to proceed to a meeting of great importance where the people had already declared him a perso non grata. Our Education Minister pronounced that Rajbonshi should resign from his post before he is unceremoniously removed?

Good job

On the Republic Day, I was really delighted to see a program on TV telecast by News Live and Prag News channel where patriotic BSF jawans were seen singing and dancing on the patriotic songs. Such scenes are bound to raise our patriotic fervor. The jawans were performing splendidly with guitar, drums and other musical instruments. With the performing jawans the other jawans sitting in the gallery were singing Vande Mataram and ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jay’ slogans. It was indeed a fitting show on an auspicious occasion. At the same time, I also felt that those brave jawans who were singing Vande Mataram would be branded as ‘commul’. Instances are galore in our tion where singing Vande Mataram is considered commul by a section of so-called pseudo secular politicians and religious leaders. Through your esteemed daily I thank both the news channels for telecasting such programs.

5000 unemployed engineers!

Recently, the Industry minister informed the house that there are around 5000 unemployed engineers in Assam. My point is why engineers should be appointed for the sake of appointment when there has been no job to be performed by them. Let them go outside the state and find job for themselves. I don’t think that the State has the moral responsibility to provide them job. To substantiate my claim, I can cite umpteen examples. I know a few engineers who hardly visit their offices. There could be hundreds in number in the State if not more. In a month, 1 or two days they visit office and rest of the days they stay at home doing household chores, ferry children to school /tuition and accompany wife to market. Around 16 months back the engineer in question was suspended along with two of his junior colleagues for embezzlement of some 3.6 crores. Now, it is given to understand that the gentleman was given promotion. Political connection has helped to tide over the problem. The Government can definitely find out the credential of that engineer if they want to do so. If he is innocent that engineer should not be punished. However, I want to pose a question, what services the engineer of this hue is expected to render for the development of the state? Filly, who is going to clean the Augean stable of the State government departments?
