LAKHIMPUR, April 2: Lakhimpur District Congress Committee staged a protest on Monday over the no-confidence motion raised by the party against the chairman of the North Lakhimpur Municipal Board.
The district unit of the party protest against the stand of the Lakhimpur district administration which allegedly has not taken due steps to allow the party to form the municipal board even after three months since the no-confidence motion was moved against Samiran Konwar, the chairman of the Municipal Board.
“The district administration and the State Government have killed democratic principles by not allowing the Congress party to form the municipal board, despite eight Congress ward members out of 14 raising a no-confidence motion against the chairman. In such a situation, Samiran Konwar has the opportunity to adopt unfair means in case of implementation of schemes by violating the municipal laws,” alleged Dr. Joy Prakash Das, the president of Lakhimpur District Congress Committee, while taking part in the protest in front of the Lakhimpur DC office. More than 100 activists of the party participated in the protest.
