Lakhimpur Kendriya Rongali Utsav with a three-day long programme concludes

LAKHIMPUR: The Lakhimpur Kendriya Rongali Utsav celebrated with a three-day long programme from May 11 at North Lakhimpur Boys’ Government HS School playground, concluded at Monday night with a colourful cultural night programme.

On the second day of the event on Sunday, the agenda began with Saru Bihuwoti competition which was inaugurated by Bipul Borah of Basic Training Centre, Azad, North Lakhimpur. Lakhimpur DC Dr. Jeevan B inaugurated the husori competition. It was followed by the State-level Mukoli Bihu competition which was inaugurated by Padma Shri Uddhav Kumar Bhorali. Rang Basanta Husari Dol of Dibrugarh bagged the title in husori competition while Habung Bihu Dol won the best team award in the Mukoli Bihu competition.

On the other hand, various literary competitions, dhol badan and pepa badon competitions were held on the concluding day on Monday. Noted cultural activist of the State, Pradip Gogoi released Bohona, the souvenir of the event, in a programme held in the evening. Heartthrob Zubeen Garg performed in the cultural night programme.

An unexpected incident took place in the Bihu venue after Zubeen Garg had started to perform around 2.30 am on Monday night. As per police sources, a section of the audience broke the barricade and came near the stage. They engaged in confrontation with the police personnel who had been deployed in order to maintain discipline and peace in the Bihu venue. These unruly people injured the OC of North Lakhimpur Police Station along with a few police personnel by pelting stones. In this regard, North Lakhimpur Police apprehended six youths and seized 14 bikes.
