Lakhimpur Theatre Academy to organize drama festival

Lakhimpur, Feb 5: Lakhimpur Theatre Academy, the best experimental play award winner in the 24th mega intertiol theatre event India Theatre Olympiad, held a meeting to organize a drama festival in Lakhimpur district.

The plays will be of short length period and performed by children. Tribal children will be included in the plays to promote the culture of Misings, Adivasis (tea tribe), Thengal Kacharis, Deuris, and other tribes. Raju Singha of MASS, Debandra Kumar Pandey, president of North Lakhimpur Press Club, Surjya Bhuyan, president of Lakhimpur Theatre Academy, Sakhidhar Deori, member of Xahitya Xabha, Prasanta Kumar Modak, a prominent jourlist, Diploma Bordoloi, a prominent dramatist and Manuranjan Das were present during the meeting.

“The plays will be helpful for the children of all tribes in regard to cultural exchange, education and other aspects. The children of all the tribes of Assam have always been left behind in social development. The initiative taken by Lakhimpur Theatre Academy is really appreciable for including tribal children as it will not just held in their educatiol development but also build their self-confidence,” said Raju Singha of MASS.

“The plays will be based on superstition in the Assamese society like witch-hunting and other real-life issues which will send out a strong message to the audience. Drama has the potential to develop the caliber of the tribal children. The motive of Lakhimpur Theatre Academy is to promote the art of drama in the district so that the young generation of the tribes can develop socially,” said Surjya Bhuyan.
