Largest Cash Seizure Since Election Notification By Election Commission of India

GUWAHATI: With the model code of conduct coming into force after notification of elections, election expenditure monitoring activities have been initiated by all agencies requisitioned by Election Commission of India for the purpose. Directorate of Investigation of Income Tax, North East Region (NER) is on high alert during the election process.

On intimation from the state’s election monitoring authorities of Nagaland about interception of substantial amount of cash by a patrol of Assam Rifles, the Surveillance Team of Investigation Directorate set up in Dimapur responded immediately. After consulting local authorities, the person apprehended with the cash was interrogated till late evening of Thursday by sleuths of Investigation Directorate. At around 9 pm, Investigation Directorate made a seizure of Rs 57.10 lakh cash as undisclosed money. This is the biggest cash seizure by Investigation Directorate in NER so far since notification of General Elections. (PIB)
