'Lat Mandal' caught by Vigilance for accepting bribe in Nagaon

Guwahati: A 'Lat Mandal' working for circle officer in Nagaon’s Kaliabor was caught red-handed by the Anti Corruption Bureau Team of Vigilance and Anti Corruption unit led by a Deputy Superintendent while accepting a bribe of Rs 15,000 cash from the complainant today at around 2.30 pm.

As per a press statement, the accused Lat Mandal identified as Prafulla Kumar Bora had allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs 30,000 for land mutation from a complainant Md Nazrul Islam of Barghuli under Uluoni Police station in Nagaon. Today the complainant was to pay the first installment (Rs 15,000) out of the total bribe amount.

The bribe money has been seized from the possession of the accused. Anti Corruption Bureau Team meanwhile seized all the connected files and documents from the office of the Lat Mandal.

It may be mentioned that the complainant had earlier approached the ACB PS in the Directorate of Vigilance & Anti Corruption, Assam and a Trap was laid down as per standard procedure in matter of ACB PS Case No. 23/2018 under section 7(A)/13(1)(B)/13(2) of PC Act (as amended in 2018).

Further, the accused Public Servant has been arrested and will be forwarded to the Special Court tomorrow morning. Further investigations are on.
