Lawyers' body to move tiol Law Authority of India

 From a Correspondent

JORHAT, Oct 14: “We will sue the Deputy Commissioner of Jorhat as he is working as an agent for the IAS lobby to save VV Solanki,” said advocate Rintu Goswami to media persons on Saturday.
Advocate Rintu Goswami said that the present Jorhat DC Virendra Mittal was trying to save VV Solanki, the former DC of Jorhat, under whose tenure over Rs 200 crore of untied fund had been misused. A section of lawyers, social activists and organizations had pressurized the government to take action against the mass misappropriation of government fund during VV Solanki’s tenure as Deputy Commissioner. For example, an amount of Rs 85,000 was spent during the Vigilance Team’s visit to Jorhat for an outdoor party in a hotel on 21-11-14 which was paid through Assam Gramin Bikash Bank account no. 720301004039 with cheque no. 208784.
There was mass protest and even a 12-hour bandh wascalled recently for action against the mastermind of the fund appropriation, who is on deputation. A group of advocates is likely to move the tiol Law Authority of India for justice. Of late, now the present DC Virendra Mittal, who was also allegedly involved in the four-lane scam in Sivasagar district when he was DC of the district, is trying to bypass as the chairman of Assam Human Right Commission, as per an order no. ARHC case no. 2083/9/17-18/6.
The forum said that it was against the law of the court to call upon common people, NGOs for statement, eyewitness, evidences, memoranda and documents from the individuals, NGOs and leading citizens pertaining to the compliances and grievances revolving round the allegation of the sister-in-law of Babul Lekharu, the then ADC, Jorhat, who was arrested by police for which an order was issued by FR Laskar, ADC Jorhat on October 9, 2017. The administration is trying to open the Pandora’s box once again, said the advocate forum.
The order further stated that mita Burahgohain, sister-in-law of Babul Lekharu, was misbehaved by an investigating officer, Tuniram Neog. “It is an attempt to tarnish the image of the RTI activists. Virendra Mittal is under pressure from the IAS lobby to save the skin of the IAS officer who was the then DC of Jorhat, VV Solanki,” said Gautam Bora, a member from the advocate’s forum.
A group of advocates said that they would move the tiol Law Authority of India, the President, the Prime Minister and the Chief Minister.
