Leaders see 2018 as remarkable year for Assam

KOKRAJHAR: The president of the All Bodo Students’ Union (ABSU) Promod Boro said the year 2018 was relatively not bad in comparison to previous years where violence and other criminal activities marred the region.

He said, “From 2014 to 2018, we had lot of hopes from the BJP-led NDA government for solution of Bodoland issue and we brought positive movement for our solution of problems.” He also said the movement group of the Bodos did not carry out any subversive or aggressive movement but went ahead with democratic mass movement. He further reiterated that the Government of Assam laid special emphasis on all-round development of the Assamese but not in Bodoland region and that discriminative attitude on the part of the government had given them many lessons to learn.

Boro said they had learnt about the survival of the fittest through indifferent attitude of the government towards the growth and development of language, literature, medium, education, culture and identity. He said the principles and ideology of leaders must be changed to lead the society towards positive growth and development of the society. He also said as an overall view that achievements in academic field had increased. He said that violence and conflict had come down remarkably in the region which was a good sign. He further said the ABSU would work for the all-round development of the society in the days to come and with this view, the theme of the Kumarikhata session of the ABSU to be held in

Baksa district in the first week of January would be, ‘Let’s build a peaceful and responsive society’.

Talking to a section of mediapersons, State Health Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma said 2018 was a good year for BJP as it marked manifold achievements in different fields. He said the BJP won the last panchayat election, besides historic inauguration of the longest bridge over the Brahmaputra River. He also said the BJP-led coalition government had brought many changes in every respect.

Sarma said 2019 would be the most challenging year for the BJP as there would be the Lok Sabha election. He said the party would work with its strategy and commitment to the people of the country. He also said the criminal cases and militancy problems in Assam had come down significantly and peace had prevailed after the BJP came to power in Assam in 2016.

BTC chief Hagrama Mohilary said the 2018 was not bad as people had witnessed a lot of changes in the State. He hoped that would be the prosperous year with peaceful co-existence among all sections of people. Meanwhile, minister Chandan Brahma also extended his best wishes to the people of Assam and the BTC region in particular.
