Leading consumer organisations demand strong policies

Guwahati, January 19: Leading consumer organisations of India met today at the NEDFi auditorium, Guwahati along with the other stakeholders of the eight North Eastern States at a Regiol Conference to ascertain the user’s perspective, relating to the various areas of development and to understand the potential for better implementation of the development programmes in the North Eastern Region. The deliberations would facilitated to draw up a road map for faster development and better ‘user’ satisfaction on various Government programs relating to development in the 8 States of the North Eastern Region.

Bejon Misra, Intertiol Consumer Policy Expert and founder of Consumer Online Foundation said, “There is no denying the fact that the people of the States concerned are the direct beneficiaries of the ongoing development projects as the ‘users’ of the various services and benefits provided by such development schemes. Government of India is fully aware of the special problems faced by the North Eastern States, both due to their geographical location, cultural differences, as well as problems relating to accessibility and infrastructure etc. The consumer organisations feel that serious interventions on consumer education and awareness are the only solution to rapid development,” he said.
