Once again Rahul Gandhi showed his true colour and depth by his behaviour on the floor of the Parliament during the recent no-confidence motion. He started his speech by labelling some very serious charges against the nation’s Defence Minister in the Raffael deal. The Raffael deal was signed during the erstwhile United Progressive Alliance (UPA) regime. Rahul Gandhi, who was full of enthusiastic during the speech, lacked proper preparation and as such he ended up making a joke of himself.
It might be another reason that the Congress president was not in proper frame of mind. Such childish behaviour from a projected Prime Ministerial candidate in the run-up to 2019 elections can seriously jeopardise the prospects of the Congress. He might have thought he has scored points in the Parliament, but the fact is that his comical behaviour has further dented his already ravaged image.
Dr Ashim Chowdhury,
The State’s probably oldest apolitical organization, the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU), has always by and large stood by the problems of the indigenous people since the days of Assam Agitation. The birth of a regional party, the AGP, is from the AASU’s womb that produced the likes of Praffulla Mahanta,, Bhrigu Phukan, and others as regional leaders. But since then, it seems, no new young leaders are emerging out as some smell old war horses, who have passed their student life some decades ago, are still heading the AASU. The senior leaders who are reluctant to retire gracefully from the AASU due to reasons best known to all have overshadowed the new brigade. A new breed of leaders with new thinking in the best interest of Assam is a must. But we doubt whether it will ever happen as some 55 years plus leaders may never quit their ‘lengthy student life’.

Social media plays a major role in spreading news, incidents in our society. But, publishing some fake news in the social media such as facebook, whats app etc affects the society causing some bad incidents. In recent times, the Dakmaka incident in which Nilotpol Das and Abhijit Nath had been lynched by a mob is due to spreading fake news of child lifter. The incident of riot in Shillong was also mainly due to spreading of some exaggerated news through the social media. As such, in the present scenario, the social media needs to be regulated /reduced in Assam and other states in the region by the authority concerned. And, stress is to be laid on the trusted print media for publication of news in society so that fabricated fake news does not affect the social atmosphere.
