Oh! Don Bosco School

Don Bosco School, Panbazar was one of the leading educational institutions of the entire north-eastern region for quite sometime as the school excelled in academics as well as sports. Numerous sports stalwarts were produced by the school in table tennis and cricket. The school was blessed with Late Father Patrick Burns who was a fatherly figure to its students. His love for sports and his encouragement to the budding talents in those days were unmatched.

The present scenario in the school is a pale shadow of the past. The current Principal, Father Sabestain Mathews is unfortunately killing the sporting culture of the school. The school is blessed with beautiful sporting infrastructure but the current Principal is hardly interested in promoting and patronising sports. Nowadays, sports and academic activities are given equal importance in other schools but this school under the current Principal is out to strangulate sports and games. It is seen most of the sports discipline in the school are in moribund stage. It is time for the authorities concerned to look into this matter and revive the glorious tradition of Don Bosco School, Panbazar.

Exponential Rise of Road Accidents

It should be a matter of great concern for all of us that all kinds of road accidents are on the rise exponentially in the state every passing day. Every death makes me extremely sad and exasperated. Every life is precious and beautiful for its family, if not for others. Every human being has enormous potential and every human being is a resource by itself for the state and the country. Life being ended in premature death is sad. Now, the question is whether the state authority is mulling steps to prevent accidents. The reasons that cause accidents are: drunk driving, crossing speed limits, overtaking at wrong situations, vying one vehicle with another to get ahead, parking cars/trucks/buses on roadside without parking lights at night time, state's road without dividers, not obeying traffic rules, bad road conditions and last but not the least, driving licences being issued to non-deserving drivers.

The responsibility lies with the police administration of the state. If the police administration works hard, they can help reduce road accidents to a great extent, if not, totally eliminated. The callous attitude of the police department has made everything go haywire. Take the case of Guwahati city. There are zebra crossings in various places in the city roads. However, these are not being minded by police personnel. There have been umpteen bone chilling scenes to be seen on Guwahati roads on a daily basis, when children, elderly people crossing roads dangerously. Moreover, it has become a common practice for two wheelers and cars to drive on the opposite side, instead of taking a proper U-turn. Police men remain mute spectators, doing nothing. The top cop in the cozy confine has to have will and intent to do something good for the society. Lack of which puts things in a mess.
